Stone and the River Thame

This wonderful walk starts in the village of Stone, Buckinghamshire. The quaint village is the perfect starting point for a rambling walk with plenty of beautiful buildings to admire, including the Church of Saint John the Baptist, Stone. This 6km (3.7 miles) loop takes you from the village, through fields and alongside the peaceful River Thame. Some of the fields have livestock grazing so be sure to keep dogs on a lead through these areas. On a spring or summer day, you’ll be treated to lots of butterflies, birds and wildflowers.

The perfect way to reconnect with nature, this walking loop is popular with dog walkers and hikers, remember to pack your wellies or walking boots as it can get muddy! There are plenty of opportunities for a wholesome picnic, so it’s worth packing snacks and a blanket.

Aylesbury Arm circular walk

A route steeped in history, this circular walk starts on the Aylesbury Arm off the Grand Union Canal. The Aylesbury Arm was opened in 1815 as an offshoot from the Grand Union Canal in order to link Marsworth to the centre of Aylesbury. Nowadays, it makes for a picturesque stroll amongst the history of Aylesbury. This circular walk is 7km (4.3 miles) and treats walkers to non-stop beautiful scenery of the canal and surrounding countryside.

The walk takes around one hour and 30 minutes to complete, meaning you might work up quite the appetite. Thankfully, you can pop into one of the many cafes, pubs or restaurants in Aylesbury for some refreshment after your invigorating stroll.

Haddenham to Chearsley circular

For those looking for a slightly longer hike, the Haddenham to Chearsley circular is a perfect adventure. Beginning in Haddenham, this 11.7km (7.3 miles) route takes you through the village, known for its pretty ponds which were used to breed Aylesbury ducks. The trail takes you through picturesque fields, the epitome of English countryside, before crossing the River Thame and heading towards Chearsley.

Whilst this route is longer, it’s fairly flat and considered an easy route for most. You can stop off in Chearsley halfway through the walk which is a traditional sleepy village with stunning thatched cottages. Both Haddenham and Chearsley have great cafes and pubs to visit, the perfect end to your loop through both villages. This circular walk will take around three hours to complete, meaning you can make a day of it if you stop by one of the villages for lunch.
